Recognized as one of America’s best large employers in 2025, his leadership has helped improve the lives of Idahoans of all kinds. During his tenure, he has placed a strong em-phasis on workforce initiatives aimed at building a pipeline of health care workers and lead-ers, including strengthening partnerships with schools, workforce development programs and focusing on career progression within the organization.

Under McFadyen’s leadership, Saint Alphonsus and Mountain States Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (MSI) opened Idaho’s newest Family Medicine Residency Program in 2025.

“As our state continues to grow, primary care must keep pace to grow with it,” he said. “The Family Medicine residency is designed to address our current and future community health needs by attracting and retaining primary care physicians in Idaho. Through partnership and a shared commitment to the education and future health of Idaho, we are proud to begin training the state’s next generation of family medicine physicians.”

In addition, this past November, the new 54,000-square-foot Caldwell Health Plaza opened in the heart of Canyon County, which is home to more than 30 physicians providing care in more than 20 specialties. Further, McFadyen and his leadership team are working to ex-pand telehealth and integrated care models to make health care more convenient, accessi-ble and personalized.

Outside of his work in the health care field, McFadyen is on the board of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, board of ambassadors for Boise State University College of Health Sciences, and the foundation board for Boise State University. He’s also on the board of the Idaho Hospital Association and Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine.

A nominator shared, “When four distinct orders of Catholic sisters founded Saint Alphon-sus’s first hospitals more than 130 years ago, they were called to serve growing population centers that needed better access to health care. While our world looks a bit different today, one thing has not changed in over a century of work at Saint Alphonsus: An unwavering commitment to caring for God’s sick. Under David’s stewardship, the organization contin-ues to honor our founding sisters’ legacy by bringing compassionate and healing care to the people of southwest Idaho and beyond. As the leader of one of the largest health sys-tems in a state bursting with growth, David is truly one of Idaho’s most influential and con-sequential executives.”
