Career technical education agencies within Idaho could be eligible for a sizable grant in their efforts to connect students to learning opportunities.

The Idaho Career Ready Students council voted to open the application process for Idaho education agencies, giving them a chance to be awarded up to $50,000 for the 2025-2026 school year. The purpose of the funding is to reduce reliance on federal funds for CTE programs, the council stated.

“This program has already done so much for our students by connecting them to learning that interests them and gives them a jumpstart on their futures,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield. “Our students deserve preparation for life beyond our classroom walls, and these grants open those doors for them.”

Since ICRS grants began, the council has awarded 72 grants totaling $62.9 million, 50% of which as been allocated to districts in every region of the state, the organization said. The council is made up of 11 people who vote on applicants who partner with local industries, sustainability of the proposed program, and responsiveness to community and statewide workforce needs, a release stated.

The application cycle is now open and closes on Oct. 17, 2025, at 6 p.m. Preference will be given to agencies that have not received an ICRS grant in the past, and applications that request support for creating or expanding middle school CTE programs are encouraged, the council stated.

According to the council, “districts and charters that have received a grant may apply for a micro-grant to fund programming for a school or building within their boundaries that did not previously receive funding. Districts and charters that previously received $50,000 or less may apply for a grant for the same school or new building project. These will be evaluated after applications for new funding have been considered.”
