Boise ranks sixth best US city for family reunions

The City of Trees is now ranked among the top cities nationwide for bringing together family trees.

Boise was tabbed the sixth best city for family reunions, based on a new study produced by Mixbook, an online platform and app service designed to allow users to customize their pictures into photo books, cards and calendars.

The findings show Idaho‘s capital produced an overall score of 62.3 and earned high rankings in several categories, including walkability, park access, airport proximity and historic sites.

New Orleans was named the top spot for family gatherings. Rounding out the top five were Tucson, Colorado Springs, Wichita and Charleston.

With a population of just under 250,000, Boise fared well among 100 of the largest U.S. cities analyzed across 13 factors tied to multigenerational accessibility and group travel. Most notably, Boise’s high density of green spaces and accessible downtown layout make it easy for families with small children and older relatives to explore together without complicated logistics or long transit times.

The best places for reunions are “more than just a meeting place,” according to Leslie Alberston, senior director of Brand & Creative for Mixbook.

“It helps every generation feel part of the moment, whether that’s through an easy meal together, a walk in the park or a shared activity everyone can enjoy,” Albertson said. “Those are the memories families bring home, and the stories they’ll want to keep, share and revisit for years.”

Joining Boise in the second group of five were Sarasota, Florida, at No. 7; Knoxville, Tennessee (No. 8); Louisville, Kentucky (No. 9); and Omaha, Nebraska, at No. 10.

Some of the key factors analyzed in the study include the number of and costs for large rental homes in the area; distance to airports; traffic volume; walking access; and the number of parks, museums and historic places per capita.
